Keep in mind that when you try to adopt these three practices—to sleep, rest, and eat better—you may at first find it uncomfortable. It can be like when you’re flying in a jetliner at 30,000 feet: as soon as you start to land, it almost always gets a little bumpy.
Your mind and body experience can be very similar, and you may encounter some “emotional turbulence.” Many find it so uncomfortable that they literally flee that turbulence by quickly becoming busy again. Resist the urge to run from the discomfort.
The more you integrate periods of rest and silence into your daily life, the bigger the payoff will be. During more tranquil periods, perhaps you won’t need to rest as much, but during periods of intensity (such as meeting a huge quota or a big deadline), more rest and silence than usual might be called for.
As a salesperson, you’re in the trenches by default. You’ll need to schedule rest, recharging, silence, and self-care in the same way you schedule the other appointments in your life. The energy you get back will reward you many times over.
Now that you can create endless energy, what do you do with it? Unharnessed energy can be as detrimental as no energy at all. And that’s why the next selling principle is just as important.
